When asked to comment on public criticism that the DPP authorities' disaster relief efforts during Typhoon Danas were inadequate, and that their cold, arrogant behavior had sparked outrage — with some accusing Lai Ching-te of merely putting on a political show, Chen Binhua, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council said on Wednesday that they are deeply concerned about their compatriots affected by Typhoon Danas and hope they can soon return to normal life and resume their work and daily routines.
He noted that the DPP authorities' disregard for the needs of disaster victims and their slow, ineffective response have once again revealed their true nature of placing politics above all else and caring only for the selfish interests of their own party. It has further exposed the hypocrisy behind the DPP authorities and Lai's self-proclaimed commitment to "democracy" and "love for Taiwan." These actions have been widely criticized by public opinion and residents in the disaster-affected areas, Chen added.
