China issued a travel advisory on Friday urging caution for its nationals visiting Japan amid tsunami alerts, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry. 

On Thursday, a powerful 8.7-magnitude earthquake struck off the eastern coast of Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula, triggering widespread tsunami warnings across Japan's Pacific coastline. In response, the Chinese Foreign Ministry has issued an advisory urging Chinese nationals to exercise caution when planning travel to Japan in the near term.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, emergency tsunami warnings have been issued for multiple coastal prefectures, with waves of up to three meters expected in some areas. As of now, tsunami activity has been observed in 22 prefectures, with localized reports of waves reaching 1.3 meters in height, the ministry said. 

Chinese diplomatic missions in Japan have also issued alerts to Chinese nationals currently in the country, advising them to avoid high-risk coastal areas, enhance personal safety precautions and closely monitor official weather updates and emergency instructions. Travelers are urged to stay informed and be prepared for possible evacuations.

The advisory emphasizes that anyone near coastal regions who feels an earthquake should immediately move to higher ground. In case of emergency, Chinese nationals are instructed to contact local Japanese emergency services and reach out to the nearest Chinese embassy or consulate for assistance.
